Devouring of the Moon

Image
It was night, not particularly dark. One could say it was a grey night, definitely not a black night.  The crescent moon provided ample moonlight and the twinkling stars canvassed the night sky.  Darkness was further dispelled by rebounded street lights from afar. It was like any other night, nothing particularly charming or mysterious about it.  Hameed was lying on his back in the sand. He had just finished his supper that his mom had prepared. It was a everyday supper. Naan bread, lamb curry and lemon pickles. He lay there  looking at the crescent moon that appeared like it was hinged on some invisible cosmic thread.  In fact, he wasn't paying much attention to it. It was as if he was looking through it to something beyond. For a long time Hameed sat there ruminating about the game of marbles he had lost with Asif during the break hours of the school. Asif was never more skilled then Hameed at marble shooting but Hameed endured a streak of bad luck and h...

Birth of a God

Image
Carve a face on the wood Stand with a lamp, wearing a hood Chant some hymns, smear some vermilion Spread the news and redo some wrongs A new god is born and gods are jealous Lift a stone, put it on a pedestal Drape a cloth and announce its vestal Crush some lemons, daub some turmeric Spread the news and name it something generic A new god is born and gods are jealous Catch a old man, wrap him in a robe Give him a staff and let him wear a cap Fall on his legs, call him a saint Edit his biography and eliminate parts that can taint A new god is born and gods are jealous See something new, call it miracle Rain is gift from gods not due to water cycle Call this absurdity faith, strengthen you belief Just because you don't want to die in grief Believe in a god, a god is born Just like a centaur or more like unicorn Build your faith and your god will live Spread this belief and your god will thrive With you they stay As long ...

If there is darkness I won't hold a torch for you I will hold your hand Together we can walk through If it rains I won't hold an umbrella for you I will stand beside you Together we can get drenched If its sunny I won't pull you under a shade I will push you in a pool Together we can swim and splash If it's cold I won't buy you a new jacket I will embrace you Together we can feel the warmth If it's windy I may not be able to do much If it's arid I might run out of ideas Protect you, I will Shield you, I won't Life is beautiful, you've to see Not with my eyes but with your own World is strange, you've to know Not with my tales but travels of your own Love is uplifting, you've to feel Not with my poems but by losing your heart to me I want you to grow But not in my shadow If you want me to be your superman You've go to be my wonder woman Sure the universe is a big p...

Planet X

Image
The parks are empty, the roads deserted I wonder why my shadow is inverted Where have all the people gone? I wonder if I am stranded here alone I walk by the same old path The sound of silence is goth Trees stand lifeless with bare barks On the walls there are weird geometric marks The abandoned cars have become rusty and old Sky keeps changing its color from fuchsia to gold Is this a World? or it's mirror image As Shakespeare said, is it literally a stage! The malls are open, no guards to stop The stations are vacant, with none to hop The asphalt road seems black and thick The clock has reversed its direction of the tick I finally see a man, he seems distant A relief, sign of another life He approached me at a rapid pace When he came close, I saw his robotic face I recoiled and jeered "Who are you?" Welcome Jack!, I am T101 brand new The reply came sharp and clear It said, "I am a robot and Hello my dear!...

Trek to Kumar Parvatha - An Account of the Journey - First Travel Blog

Image
My friend Arun Bagli shared with me an idea of trekking to Kumar Parvatha - 4th highest peak in south India and one of the toughest treks available in the region. He had planned it with his other group of friends and when he said I could hop in, I decided, "Let's do it". The date was perfect 26 January - long weekend, all the necessary travel arrangements were made. We approached X-Dog for renting out trekking related equipment and we were all set to travel to Kukke Subrahmanya on 26 th Morning.   The whole journey can be divided into three stages and narration will follow in the same fashion. First Leg: From Bengaluru To Bhattar Mane We left Bengaluru in the early morning hours on Friday the 26th. By 5:30 AM in the morning every group member was inside the tempo traveler (going forward it will be referred to as TT).  We stopped at Kicchana Halli Mane Restaurant on Bengaluru - Mangalore Highway (NH75).  Which is a South Indian restaurant - the Idli...

Signature Wit #3 - Short Poems & Snippets

Image
The core idea to have this blog was to publish my poems. There came a time when I ceased writing them, may be I ran out of ideas or I really lost the knack of doing that - I am not sure. But it never completely eluded me, I kept writing short snippets now and then so, even though there was discontinuity but the connection was not lost.  Here is a collection of few of them, some are my own and others are something that I have picked up because I really liked them. Arabian Nights Intro Oh I come from a land, from a faraway place Where the caravan camels roam Where they cut off your ear If they don't like your face It's barbaric, but hey, it's home  When the wind's from the east And the sun's from the west And the sand in the glass is right Come on down Stop on by Hop a carpet and fly To another Arabian night On Love - By Kabir प्रीत न कीजिये पंछी जैसी, जल सूखे उड जाय! प्रीत तो कीजिये मछली जैसी, जल सूखे मर जाय!
