Birth of a God

Carve a face on the wood
Stand with a lamp, wearing a hood
Chant some hymns, smear some vermilion
Spread the news and redo some wrongs
A new god is born and gods are jealous

Lift a stone, put it on a pedestal
Drape a cloth and announce its vestal
Crush some lemons, daub some turmeric
Spread the news and name it something generic
A new god is born and gods are jealous

Catch a old man, wrap him in a robe
Give him a staff and let him wear a cap
Fall on his legs, call him a saint
Edit his biography and eliminate parts that can taint
A new god is born and gods are jealous

See something new, call it miracle
Rain is gift from gods not due to water cycle
Call this absurdity faith, strengthen you belief
Just because you don't want to die in grief

Believe in a god, a god is born
Just like a centaur or more like unicorn
Build your faith and your god will live
Spread this belief and your god will thrive

With you they stay
As long as you pray
But when the new gods are born
Will the old gods be happy?
Will the old resist, will they go for war?
Or will they submit and into void drift afar
